Heat Sensing thermometer

Expanding on the Heat sensing idea, why not make a temperature reader using the heat sensing technology. It would involve making a glass/plastic rod attached to some insulated material. The plastic/glass part would be dipped into any hot/cool are and that part would light up according to the temperature by LED lights. It can be powered by AA battery or a rechargeable one.
